New York Comedy Film Festival, November 1997
DIKE was invited to the very first New York
Comedy Film Festival in October 1997. Hayes traveled to New York along with
fellow Toronto filmmaking team, Tapas Films, who were there with their first production, Killing
Time. Tapas director, Paula Tiberius and Hayes shared the memorable Greyhound trip,
(not all directors travel first class!) while Tapas Producer, Tanya Henley,
flew down. Hosted by New York filmmaker Valerie DesJardin, the visit to New
York was very memorable, with opportunities to meet comedy mavericks like Ben
Stiller and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. (I wish that
I'd seen Orgasmo before then so that I would have had reason to truly
admire them.)
