When both DIKE
and Women Are Not Little Men were invited to participate
in the festival, I was tempted by their invite claiming: "Our festival
is unique in that we cater to and entertain our filmmakers, encouraging them
to meet each other and talk shop, as well as taking them out to different clubs
and nightspots each evening. This being New Orleans and the world's premiere
party city we attempt to show everyone a good time while allowing them to network
as much or as little as possible." I booked my flight the next day.
Festival volunteer, Angela Santoro, went well out of her way to ensure that all that happened, even finding me accomodations with some gracious hostesses: Andrea Slocum, Jessica Smith and Kristen Cuhran.
One highlight was meeting first time documentary filmmaker Joyce Warshow and her amazingly inpirational subject, Blue Lunden.
